Josh Hofheimer co-leads Sidley’s Global Agribusiness and Food industry group, which has been recognized as the only law firm consistently ranked Band 1 in Agribusiness: Global Market Leaders by Chambers Global (2016–2025). He is also a member of Sidley’s Global Life Sciences Leadership Council. Drawing on two decades of corporate, commercial, and technology law experience, as well as prior service leading a public agribusiness company, Josh provides practical, business-driven counsel to help clients grow, commercialize innovation, and maximize value.

Josh represents clients across the agribusiness and food, life sciences, and information technology sectors, with a practice centered on complex intellectual property and commercial transactions. His experience spans agricultural biotechnology, crop protection, food and ingredient innovation, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and software, including the development and execution of commercialization strategies for multi-platform IP portfolios. Josh has deep experience advising on global strategic collaborations and licensing arrangements involving core agribusiness technologies, as well as adjacent life sciences assets.

Josh represented Monsanto Company in its efforts to advance agriculture research and development leveraging gene-editing technology through a joint venture with Pairwise Plants. Josh also has negotiated research, funding and commercialization agreements, licenses and technology spinouts, as well as developed strategies to exploit proprietary products growing out of the research programs of agri-tech and bio-tech clientele.

Prior to working at Sidley, Josh served as CEO and Managing Director of Hexima Limited (ASX:HXL), Australia’s first publicly listed ag-biotech company, where he led the company’s commercialization strategy for its disease-control platform, culminating in a development and commercialization agreement with DuPont company Pioneer Hi-Bred International.
