Miguel Ángel López Mateo
Miguel Ángel López Mateo is an equity partner at Garrigues since 2018, specializing in M&A and co-head of the firm's Agribusiness & Food practice, which he has led since its inception. As global co-director, he coordinates the agribusiness, food and beverages activity across Garrigues' 18 domestic offices and 14 international offices worldwide. He is currently recognized by Legal 500 as a leading practitioner of agribusiness M&A in Spain.

Mr. López Mateo holds a law degree from the University of Murcia, a postgraduate qualification from the University of London and an LLM (High Honors) from the University of California, Berkeley, where he was awarded "Best Oral Argument." He has over 20 years of professional experience at the firm.

Mr. López Mateo advises multinational groups, private equity funds and some of the largest international asset managers, primarily in their activities related to the food industry, agribusiness and natural resources, as well as closely linked sectors such as biotechnology, food logistics, chemical companies and food industry machinery manufacturers. He has wide experience leading teams in Spain, Portugal and several Latin American countries, advising on acquisitions and divestments of companies and assets (including farmland, warehouses and bottling plants), carve-outs, LBOs and MBOs.

He is also one of the most reputed experts in food chain legislation and a reference advisor to national associations and federations such as FEPEX, as well as a trusted counsel to major food companies in their dealings with Spanish Government agencies.

He served as a university lecturer between 2010 and 2018 and is a regular speaker at leading events and seminars on investment in food, beverages and agribusiness. Among others, he has spoken at the Food ADECA program at San Telmo Business School, the agri-food program at EDEM Business School, the Agri-Food Congress of the Madrid Bar Association and the World Agrifood Summit. His talks and interviews have been broadcast by TV and radio, and he has been featured in leading publications such as El Economista, Cinco Días and Capital & Corporate.
