Alvaro Aguirre

Alvaro Aguirre is a co-founder and managing partner of Folium Capital LP, a USD 1B+ investment management firm focused on sustainable forestry and agriculture investments across North America, Latin America, Europe, and Oceania. Folium Capital was founded in 2016 by former members of the timberland and agriculture investment team from Harvard Management Company (HMC), where Mr. Aguirre worked from 2003 to 2015. During his tenure at HMC, he helped lead the expansion of the firm’s portfolio from a U.S. timber-only USD 1.2B portfolio to a globally diversified USD 4B timber and agriculture portfolio in 2015. His team also divested more than USD 4.5B in timber and agriculture assets between 2003 and 2015. Before joining HMC, Mr. Aguirre worked at UBS Timber (now Global Forest Partners) from 2000 to 2003, and before that he was a visiting research scholar at North Carolina State University, a silvicultural planner at Forestal Bio-Bio (Fletcher Challenge Forests) in Chile, and as researcher in the R&D unit of Forestal Arauco in Chile (Bioforest SA).
He holds a BSc in Forestry and Forest Engineering from the Universidad de Chile and an MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
