Francisco Roque de Pinho
Francisco co-founded The Land Group in 2016, carrying forward a family tradition of managing extensive farmland holdings in Portugal and South America that began with his great-grandfather over a century ago.

Before establishing The Land Group, Francisco led Union Group, a London-based FCA-regulated investment firm focused on real assets in South America. He also co-founded Union Energy Group, a Peruvian-run-of-river hydropower project developer later acquired by Polaris Renewable Energy, a TSX-listed company.

Before these ventures, Francisco founded Plane Tree Capital, an investment firm specialising in renewable energy and carbon credits, which he sold to Union Group International in 2011.

Earlier in his career, Francisco worked in renewable energy and carbon credit investments at Carbon Capital Markets (London), management consulting at Booz Allen Hamilton (London), and capital markets and asset management at Edmond de Rothschild Group (Geneva) and Banco Icatu (Rio de Janeiro).

In addition to his business pursuits, Francisco has been surfing giant waves in Nazaré, Portugal, since 2017. This passion led him to create Red Herrings Nazaré, a big wave surfing team dedicated to developing talent, carrying out ocean-related educational initiatives, providing water patrol services, and organising team-building off-sites and management training programmes for companies and professional sports teams.

Francisco holds an MBA from INSEAD and a Bachelor’s degree in Business and Economics from École des Hautes Études Commerciales de Lausanne in Switzerland. He speaks fluent English, Portuguese, Spanish, and French.
